Hi, Lori. I'm planning to make the WDW Marathon in January my first. I'm going to follow Jeff Galloway's 28 wk program, but what would you recommend as training before the 28-week mark? This will be my 1st race longer than 5k. Thanks! Go Cats!

Hi Alan!  Well, I like you already!  Go Cats is right!  I think next year is going to be amazing for the Wildcats:)

I LOVE the Galloway method.  I honestly don't think I could run farther than a mile or two without my walk breaks!

For the marathon, this is what I would recommend:  Most importantly, make sure you are comfortable with the 5K distance since it starts at 3 miles.   Maybe even sign up for a 10K.  Last year, leading up to my first full marathon, I did a 10K in the summer, a 10-Miler in October, a half marathon in November, and then kept my distances up in training to get ready for the full in January.  I think having the races on my calendar helped me to stick with the plan, and also gave me extra confidence in myself on race day for the full.  Local races are great training races.  It's always more fun to run long when there are water stops, cheerleaders, and a finish line with a medal!!

I hope this helps!  I am already looking forward to starting my training plan for the 2014 full marathon.  I had a blast running it this year.  It was 26.2 miles of magic and fun!!

Please let me know if you have any other questions.
