Looking to take my 6 year old to the park for 1 day (April 7th). I am bring my wife along too, and spending only 1 day in the area. I would to purchase tickets and see what is available to make her day over the top special. Thanks in advance. Greg

Hi Greg! Welcome to planDisney! Thanks for stopping by with your question!

You have come to the perfect place to help plan your magical day! As a father to two children myself, I have a great feeling I will steer you in the right direction. With the Walt Disney World Resort being as large as it is, you are going to want to narrow down where you spend your time.

If this is your child's first visit, I highly recommend making the Magic Kingdom Park the priority on this trip. You'll find over 20 attractions at this park alone and get a chance to see many of your favorite characters. I suggest getting to the park early since the Cast Members will typically let you in about an hour before the official opening time. They will only let you get as far as the hub area in front of the iconic Cinderella castle, which is exactly where you want to be. The Let the Magic Begin Welcome Show starts about five minutes before opening time equipped with Mickey and his gang. It is the perfect way to start your day!

If your six-year-old is as into characters as my daughters are, the Festival of Fantasy Parade has just made its return to the Magic Kingdom. I still remember their faces lighting up as all of their favorites characters waved to them as they rode by. Chip and Dale pointed them out and gave a big air hug while Princess Elsa blew kisses their way from her float. Alice in Wonderland noticed that my daughter was wearing a similar dress and came by as close as she could to point it out. These are the moments that they still talk about to this day and have a special place in my heart. The parade is currently running twice a day which will give you plenty of chances to catch it. Also, look out for the various cavalcades that run during the day. These are much smaller, condensed versions of a parade and will feature a variety of different characters.

Obviously riding attractions throughout the day will be high on the list. The best way to maximize your day is to utilize Disney Genie+. This service allows you to bypass the standby queue and cut down on wait times throughout the day. If you want to know more about how to use it and purchase Disney Genie+, read here as I just recently broke it all down!

To cap off your day, make sure to stay for the nighttime spectacular, Disney Enchantment. This amazing firework show is set to music and has colorful projections that light up Cinderella Castle and Main Street, U.S.A. To give your child an over-the-top experience, book the Magic Kingdom 50th Fireworks Dessert Parties: Disney Enchantment Treats & Seats. You'll get exclusive viewing for this event and not have to fight the crowds for a spot. There are also custom-made desserts and beverages served while waiting for the show to begin.

Depending on your budget, Disney does offer Private VIP Tours as part of its Enchanting Extras Collection. This is an out-of-this-world experience as you are provided a personal tour guide for a block of time that will take you all over the parks!

Greg, make sure to purchase your tickets as soon as possible. You will need to make a park reservation to be able to enter for that specific day. Availability has been filling up fast, so the sooner the better.

Have a magical time with your family! See ya real soon!
