we are looking at theme park resort stay before disney cruise. we have twin 7 year olds. what is the best on property location to stay to take shuttles to other parks? or is it easier to get car vs. shuttle?

    Hi Denise!

The best properties at Walt Disney World are Disney Deluxe Resorts and Deluxe Villas.  There are Deluxe properties on the Magic Kingdom's monorail line:  The Grand Floridian, the Contemporary, and the Polynesian.  Those three resorts have the easiest access to the Magic Kingdom and to Epcot, since there is a monorail line to Epcot (though it will require a change in monorails at the Transportation and Ticket Center).

After that the next best properties in my opinion are the Deluxe properties on Crescent Lake:  Beach Club, Yacht Club, and Boardwalk.  From those three resorts, you can walk or take a boat to both Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios, though it's a relatively long walk to the Studios.  These three resorts probably have the best overall location in terms of all four theme parks and water parks.

If your budget doesn't allow a Deluxe Resort, I recommend staying in Port Orleans Riverside or Pop Century.  Riverside is a Disney Moderate Resort, and Pop Century is a Disney Value Resort.

With regards to using a car versus Disney buses, it's best to use a car everywhere on Walt Disney World except when traveling to the Magic Kingdom.  That's because Disney transportation drops you off right outside the Magic Kingdom, while parking is across the Seven Seas Lagoon and you have to take a monorail or a ferry to cross the lagoon to the park itself!

Enjoy planning and have a magical cruise and stay at Walt Disney World!
