Looking to start planning 2028 travel plans. Yes, early, but looking for guidance for a family of 6 - 2A, 4C.

Ahoy, Christopher! Planning is our specialty here at planDisney and we fully support looking beyond the horizon to find your perfect sailing aboard the Disney fleet.

Disney Cruise Line typically releases their itineraries by season, so there is no scheduling or pricing information available for any 2028 sailings yet. For reference, the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 itineraries were released in August 2025 and early bookings began on August 25, 2025. Based on that, you can expect the first 2028 itineraries to be announced later this year toward the end of the summer. You can always find the most up-to-date information on the Disney Cruise Line website, but you can also sign up to receive email updates, which conveniently bring news like itinerary announcements right to your inbox.

Since it sounds like you are just getting started on your Disney Cruise Line journey, let me give you a few pointers. There are three main things that you will need to decide in order to help you narrow down all of the choices to find your perfect cruise:

    • Departure Port: As Disney Cruise Line expands its fleet, there are more departure ports than ever before. Whether you are looking to set sail from the closest port to your home or looking to explore more distant lands, the departure port you choose is going to limit your destination options and which ship you will be boarding. You can find information about the different Departure Ports here.
    • Destinations: Consider where you are looking to travel. Is your goal to trade the cold Michigan winter for Bahamian or Caribbean beaches? Are you more interested in exploring various cultural ports of call in Europe or the rugged beauty of Alaska? Learn more about the different destinations here.
    • Length of Cruise: There are 3- and 4-night cruises for long weekend getaways and 7-night weeklong cruises for a full family vacation experience. After you pick your departure port or destination, you will be able to further narrow down the cruise length and exact sailing dates by looking at the specific itineraries available.

Disney Cruise Line truly is where magic meets the sea and you cannot go wrong with any of the itineraries or ships. One final thing to keep in mind as you look ahead though is what type of staterooms will best meet your family’s needs. As a family of six, you would either need to book two staterooms (connecting stateroom options are available) or consider booking one of the larger concierge-level suites that can sleep up to seven guests. Keep in mind that the main bed in each stateroom cannot be split into two separate beds, but there is a convertible sofa bed if you need two different sleeping spaces within the same room to accommodate the kids.

We are always happy to answer your vacation planning questions here at planDisney, whether you are setting sail in a few days or even a few years. Feel free to come back with any other questions that may arise as you continue planning for 2028. Happy sailing!
