Hi! I am looking to show my kids some out of the norm things at magic kingdom. Anything you suggest that will give them a unique experience without buying an extra tour?

    Hi Donna,

Thanks for visiting Disney Parks Moms Panel. I absolutely love your question. How can a young Guest best experience the unique, undiscovered, less explored Magic Kingdom? Let me share a few suggestions for a range of age interests in hopes you can find an idea that works magic for you.

For younger kids, there's autograph collecting. There were many visits to Magic Kingdom when we made the entire day about our young son meeting Disney friends and collecting their signatures.

Pin Trading is great fun, especially if you make the activity about the story of the pins and their design and make the experience about interacting with Cast Members to trade pins.

If your kids are more middle-school age, I really recommend the Kingdom Keepers novels. You can read the books and then make connections between the scenes and settings in the books and Magic Kingdom.

You can take in the history of Magic Kingdom by touring the windows on Main Street, U.S.A. There's a great book, aptly titled Windows on Main Street that gives an overview of the windows and the brilliant contributors they celebrate.

My last suggestion is to master the spells and completely immerse yourselves in Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom. Part scavenger hunt and part strategy game, Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom kept us engaged and entertained through an entire 10-day vacation.

Hope these ideas help. Enjoy your Disney!

The playful and creative optimism of all things Disney has enthralled me since I was a kid. I loved watching "The Wonderful World of Disney" on Sunday nights, seeing all the live-action and animated classics in theaters, and — of course — visiting "The Most Magical Place on Earth" for the first time 45 years ago. These days, the big kid in me still loves to play Disney. As a long-time Disney destinations vacationer, I'm looking forward to helping you play Disney starting here at planDisney!
