I am looking to sail on a weeklong Alaska itinerary on the Disney Wonder. What extra activities do they do onboard for the longer cruises, compared to the short Mexico itineraries?

    Welcome to planDisney, Nathan!

Alaska is one of my favorite Disney Cruise Line itineraries. This comes from a girl who disagrees with Elsa about the cold! There’s nothing quite like seeing whales swim alongside the ship or eagles soar overhead. I can’t wait for you to experience the picturesque scenery for yourself.

Unlike Caribbean cruises filled with beach days and palm trees, Alaskan Port Adventures feature glacier viewing, hiking, and exploring seaside towns. Each sailing has an onboard naturalist ready to share what they know about this diverse ecosystem. During your glacier viewing day, the naturalist will highlight the science behind this icy wonder. Photographers will also be available on Decks 9 or 10 to take pictures of your family with the glacier in the background.

Longer cruises allow more time to test your trivia skills and experience all the entertainment on board. You’ll still have three Broadway-quality shows during your sailing, but the additional nights might feature a juggler, magician, or comedian. Another difference is that you’ll spend the evening with Anna, Elsa, and her friends instead of pirates – they don't like the cold. There’s a flurry of activities happening around the ship.  Even the dining rooms take part and feature some traditional Nordic cuisine.

The most obvious difference is the weather! On sunny days, we wore shorts and were pleasantly surprised at how warm it felt. Be prepared for rain and cooler temperatures the closer you get to the glacier. Dressing in layers is a good plan so that you can adapt to the changing weather. Don't worry; you can still enjoy the pools because they are all heated. After you dry off, grab a complementary blue blanket to stay warm while you watch a movie on the Funnel Vision.

One thing that remains the same is the importance of the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app. The app will point you toward all the activities and entertainment on board. If you have any additional planning questions about the Last Frontier or want to talk more about Disney Cruise Line, my pals and I are ready to help!
