Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Amy!
Through trial and error and years worth of experience trying to master the transportation game at Walt Disney World® Resort, I'm excited to be offering you my advice!
For your visit to Disney's Animal Kingdom, I recommend driving, especially if you have plans to arrive relatively early - you'll get a pretty decent spot that will allow you to walk to the entrance and not wait for a tram. We always drive to Animal Kingdom if we have a vehicle. If you do decide to drive, make sure you take a photo of the aisle number (located at the top of the row on the ground) and parking area signage (it will be an animal and up on high on the light poles). This will make it much easier to find your car at the end of the day without having to set off your alarm to find it, but how would I know about that?! ;)
When you're ready to head to Magic Kingdom, I highly recommend taking
Disney Bus Transportation from the Art of Animation Resort. Guests who self-park at Magic Kingdom must take a tram to the Transportation & Ticket Center and then take the Express Monorail to Magic Kingdom, or a Ferry across Seven Seas Lagoon. I have found the bus system to be faster and more convenient given the multiple modes of transportation involved in getting from the parking lot to Magic Kingdom when driving.
I hope my suggestions help in your planning, Amy! Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I am here to help you become a transportation guru, too.
