looking into the princess half marathon, never ran a race before. can someone explain further the corral times/placement. thanks so much!

    Hi Karyn!

You will love the Princess Half!  It was my first race in 2009 and I was immediately hooked!

The corrals separate the runners so it won't get so clogged up on the course.  They will start each corral about 6 minutes apart.  The elite runners will go first, and then fast runners are in corral A.  This is mainly so the faster runners won't have to dodge around slower runners which would be a safety hazard.

You will only enter a proof of time if you have run a 10K or longer race in the past year and want to enter your time to be placed in a higher corral.  If you don't put in a time, you will just be placed in a random corral.  Your race time will not begin until you cross the starting line.  There is a chip on your bib that will time you as you pass over the sensors.  So, that means it doesn't really matter which corral you start in.

I have started in all the corrals except A (and elite), because I am not a fast runner.  I have enjoyed myself in all of them, so I never stress about which one I will be placed in.  Additionally, if you are running with a friend, and you aren't placed in the same corral, one of you can move back to the lower one.  You can't move to a higher corral, but you can move back.

I hope this helps!  Please let me know if you have any other questions as you prepare for your first race!!
