Just looking for your opinion since its our first trip to WDW. We are contemplating The Dolphin or Port Orleans Riverside and I can get a slightly better rate at the Dolphin. There will be 2 adults and 2 children, 5 & 7. Can you give your opinion?

I personally would stay at Port Orleans Riverside.  Because it is Disney owned and operated, it has the *magic* factor that the Dolphin does not.  The location there is admittedly not as convenient as that of the Dolphin, but it's a trade-off that I would be willing to make.

Don't get me wrong - the Dolphin is a great resort.  In fact, it has a more upscale/luxurious feel than you will find at Port Orleans.  But it also feels, to me, like a really nice hotel rather than a part of Disney World.  When my family makes that trip, we want to be completely immersed in all things Disney.

Another factor to consider is the Disney Dining Plan, or specifically, the fact that the dining plan is not an option at the Dolphin.  Again, this is because it is not Disney owned.  The dining plan can save you a great deal of money, and is also extremely helpful when it comes to budgeting, since you'll know almost all of your expenses up front.

Also, because the Dolphin is not a Disney owned property, Magical Express service is not offered.  If you are flying into the Orlando area, you will need to pay for your own transportation to and from the airport.

    I hope that helps you!
