Hi, Alyson!
Choosing a resort can be a challenge with so many great options. Regardless of which resort you choose, know that they are all kid-friendly - this is Disney World!
What may make a resort a bit less "kid friendly" in my opinion is the ability to get around the resort easily. With two little Mouseketeers traveling with you, accessibility to the food court and bus stops is so important!
My choice for you would be Port Orleans French Quarter, the sister resort to Riverside. With about 1,000 rooms, it is the smallest of the Moderate Resorts. (In comparison, Riverside has over 2,000 rooms.) My family stays here often and we book a Standard Room. We request buildings 3 or 4 which puts us closest to the bus stop and the food court. My kids love being able to run outside in the courtyard area and they even bring along a ball to toss around! The pool is pretty much in the center of the resort, so it is not a far walk from any of the buildings. The food court has great choices for adults with its Louisiana flare, yet still has all the kid-favorites you need to satisfy the kiddies!
Your family will enjoy the boat ride to Downtown Disney, and your 6 year old might enjoy the catch-and-release fishing at Riverside which is about a 10 minute walk from French Quarter.
If you decide to go with a Value Resort, I suggest a Standard Room at Pop Century and request the 50's section. It is a bit out of the way so it is fairly quiet, yet close enough to walk to the food court and bus stop.
Check out both of these resorts and
let me know what you think! If you have questions about these or any of the Disney Resorts, I am happy to help!
