We are looking to go Dec 2015 for 10 days. If we have 2 rooms 2 separate reservations when we make our dinner reservations and sit together and there are 3 Ad 8yr 2yr and infant will we still have to pay automatic gratuity if we are on 2 different plans?

    Erin:

Disney's policy of charging automatic gratuity for parties of 6 or more is based on how many are seated in your dining party, not according to how you will be paying, whether its out-of-pocket or the dining plan, nor based on the number of resort reservations in a dining party. With this said, however, if you have an infant-in-arms, your server may consider your dining party a group of 5 or possibly even a party of four with your 2-year-old. I have eaten at several restaurants, most recently Mama Melrose's, where the automatic gratuity was at the discretion of the server. I would suggest asking the host or the server before your meal begins so you know what to expect and can budget accordingly before ordering if it is an issue.

If I could just add my two cents, though. I find that the service of the cast members at Disney restaurants is usually excellent and typically worth a 20% tip. I would encourage you to strongly consider that the difference between a 15% tip and 18% tip on a $100 meal would only be a $3 difference, less than the cost of a Mickey ice cream bar. It may seem an insignificant decision, but impactful to most employees, whether they are a server at Disney or at a restaurant in your home town. My motto in life is not to be the reason someone else has a bad day. If your server does a good job, I would hope we'd all recognize that with a deserving tip.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
