Hiya Kate,
Welcome to planDisney! Thank you for submitting your question to us.
Oswald the Lucky Rabbit was one of Walt Disney’s first animated classics! Created in 1927, the legacy of Oswald has lived on to the present. In 2023, Oswald was the key character in the
Lunar New Year celebration which honored the Year of the Rabbit. Today, guests can meet and interact with Oswald in Disney California Adventure Park (dates subject to change). Check the
Disneyland app for character sightings and times on the day of your visit to see if you can interact with this lucky rabbit!
If you wish to immerse yourself in Disney history, I recommend you check out
Main Street Cinema and
The Disney Gallery in
Disneyland Park. The Disney Gallery (currently closed for refurbishment) displays gorgeous exhibits of historic and rare theme park concept renderings, models, and memorabilia. Main Street Cinema screens some of Disney’s earliest films on a loop throughout the day! I love to walk into Main Street Cinema to avoid the heat and watch Steamboat Willie in the middle of a park day, and I’m sure you’ll love it too! Finally, be sure to check out
Animation Academy in
Disney California Adventure Park to see still images and video clips illustrating the creative process—from pencil to pixel—at the Animation Courtyard gallery in the main lobby. Animation Academy also has times when Guests can sketch a beloved Disney character under the guidance of a talented animator! Classes occur every 30 minutes and Guests can present at the Disney Animation Building to join in the fun (subject to availability).
If you want to ultimate Disney history experience, I recommend looking into booking a reservation for
Walt's Main Street Story Tour. A tour guide will take you on a 90-minute experience filled with trivia, hidden details in Disneyland Park's design, and ends with a tour of Walt Disney's very own apartment above the Disneyland Fire Station! There is currently
availability for this tour through October 2024, but continue checking in the coming weeks, and with a little faith and trust (and some pixie dust), there will be availability for this tour on your visit date!
If you have other questions about the Disneyland Resort, remember - you’ve got a friend in me!
