Looking into Disney Cruises with no set plans. My 3 year old daughter will be fulfilled with all the princess delights, however My 7 year old son is into paleontology and dinosaurs. Are there any features or off shore excursions that we can do for him?

    Ahoy Lianne!

Welcome to planDisney! You cannot go wrong with a Disney Cruise Line vacation, no matter your interests and hobbies. There is truly something for everyone, from the young to the young at heart. I especially love helping Guests customize their vacations around their kids' favorite things, so I'm thrilled to be able to help you today!

Looking over the list of Port Adventures in the Bahamas, none of them are exactly what you are seeking for your budding paleontologist. However, there is an excursion to the Ardastra Gardens and Wildlife Conservation Centre that might pique his interest in nature.

On Castaway Cay, Castaway Ray’s Stingray Adventure may be the closest Port Adventure I could find that has a prehistoric connection. You'll swim with stingrays and even have a chance to feed them; it’s so easy, and they are surprisingly gentle.

If you decide to check out the Disney Wish, the newest ship to be joining the fleet in 2022, then good news: it features the Slide-a-saurus Rex, a double water slide made for all ages! This Toy Story Splash Zone was inspired by the Disney/Pixar short “Partysaurus Rex,” so automatically the theming should be right up your son’s alley!

Since I didn't find a ton of offerings beyond these, here’s an idea: make your vacation a land and sea adventure, adding a few days at Walt Disney World. The reason? There are several DINO-MITE destinations for your son in the Most Magical Place on Earth.

    Dino Destination # 1: Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

You’ll feel like you’ve stepped way back in prehistoric times upon entering Dino Land U.S.A. Yes, there’s an entire land dedicated to the prehistoric! Highlights include The Boneyard playground and the intense DINOSAUR attraction. A planDisney tip: DINOSAUR is both loud, dark and features some scary dinosaurs, too so you may want to preview this ride before letting your child experience it.

    Dino Destination # 2: T-Rex

We have unearthed an excellent restaurant find: T-Rex, located at Disney Springs. With a hands-on Paleo Zone allowing Guests to dig for hidden dinosaur fossils and a 15-foot-tall T. Rex, I’m sure your son will totally DIG it!

    Dino Destination # 3: Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you can’t miss Gertie the Dinosaur overlooking Echo Lake. She’s actually an ice cream stand called Dinosaur Gertie’s Ice Cream of Extinction. Your family should get a selfie with Gertie (and some ice cream!)

WISHing you an amazing adventure at sea with Captain Mickey!

    Happy Sailing!
