We are looking to do a dinner show while on our trip end of Sept 09. What do you recommend ? I've heard that the Hoopty Doo Revue is excellant. I have 2 children ages 7 and 8. Thank you for your input ! Stacey in Ohio

    Hi Stacey!

We've done all of the dinner shows.  My kids are a bit younger than yours ( 4 and 6).  My "top two" are the Hoop De Doo and Mickey's Backyard BBQ (both at Fort Wilderness Resort). Here are my thoughts on each:

Hoop De Doo - it's a country-western variety show, with dancing, singing and stand-up comedians (think slap stick).  While you are being entertained, you dine on all-you-care-to-eat bread (with really good honey butter), salad, fried chicken, ribs, mashed potatoes, beans, and strawberry shortcake.  Soft drinks, beer, wine and sangria are also included.  The show is very entertaining and there's lots of audience participation.  The waiters are a riot too!  This event takes place indoors at the Fort Wilderness Campground.  You will sit at a regular, restaurant-style table.

Mickey's Backyard BBQ - is held in a giant outdoor pavilion at Fort Wilderness Campground.  In my opinion, this show provides kids with unprecedented access to the characters.  While you dine from an all-you-can-eat buffet of picnic food (baked chicken, ribs, cole slaw, hot dogs, watermelon, ice cream bars, lemonade, iced tea, beer, wine) you will watch a number of country-western acts while Disney favorites (Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Chip & Dale) dance along with the audience.  My recommendation here is to eat fast at the beginning of the evening, because once the characters come out, your kids probably won't want to sit down again.  Seating here is at picnic tables (you pick your own table) and you may sit with other families.

My kids vote for the BBQ over Hoop De Doo, but yours are a bit older. If they really enjoy the characters, I'd go with the BBQ.  If they rather sit and watch a show, I'd go with Hoop De Doo.  I honestly think you can't go wrong with either.

Have a great time no matter what you pick!
