Looking at dining plan. We would like to do several character dining activities. However the sit down restaurants have exotic things and we are all picky. The buffets look the best for this family. Is it still best to get dining plan or just pay as we go?

Hi Anna! There is always a debate about whether to do the dining plans or not. My family chooses not to use them as we like the flexibility with our choices and don't want to worry about using credits up before our vacation ends. I guess I have seen so many families loading up on Rice Krispie treats on their last day as they still had snack credits to use and I don't want to go that route.

Many of the table service locations will have their menus on line that you can check out. Disney has emphasized the healthy eating over the last year or so and even the children's menus will show this with their choices. If your children are more on the picky side then please be sure and check out menus before making reservations. Even if a location is a "hot" choice it might not be the place for you and your family to enjoy a meal. We had that experience with Be Our Guest as our grandchildren refused to eat anything on the menu and we were forced to leave after our meal to find a place to feed them.

Buffets are a great way to feed the family for the value and choices. You can find many character options such as Chef Mickey that offer great buffets and some of my other favorite spots are the Biergarten in the Germany pavilion in Epcot and Boma at the Animal Kingdom Lodge.

The Dining Plans are not for everyone and if you can't use the credit options it doesn't become a cost saver at all. Check out the menus and places you wish to go and then make your final decision.
