    I am looking to do 3 dining experiences with my 4 (almost 5) year old son when I take him to Disney for the 1st time this September. Could use some advice on the 3 we should definitely look into. Character dining for just 1 of those 3.

    Jennifer:

    Based on the fact that we celebrated my son's 5th birthday at Disney, his top 3 favorites were:

    • Chef Mickey's: Hands-down, the best character interaction and most appropriate for his age. The Fab 5 came to our table twice with our late breakfast seating for lots of pictures for me and plenty of smiles and hugs for him. Best of all, all-you-can-eat Mickey waffles as well as pastries only a dentist could love made this one of the best memory-makers for him and a restaurant he has requested to return to.
    • T-Rex: It was more mature than Rainforest Cafe so the approval of his older siblings made it special. However, if you think your child may be scared, share that fact with the host. I made the mistake of requesting the ice room and had a hard time getting my eyes to adjust, so if you want good pictures, ask for any room BUT it. The large, shareable chocolate extinction dessert made our visit.
    • Beaches and Cream: If your son has a sweet tooth like mine does, you'll hit a gold mine here. It doesn't matter what you order as long as you finish off the meal with the restaurant's iconic Kitchen Sink, a dessert that has everything and is served in, you guessed it, a small replica of a kitchen sink. Food makes memories and for a kid to get to dig into an 8-scoop sundae with gummie worms and orange slices as well as the usual toppings makes for quite a dining experience that you'll find is a lot less expensive than a character meal.
