we are looking to take a cruise 2 adults and wondered if we would enjoy a Disney cruise as adults this would be our first cruise and we would like some assistance with the planning

Ahoy there Donna, and welcome aboard planDisney!

I've spent a lot of time cruising as an adult without any children in tow and similarly asked this same question myself before embarking on my first Disney Cruise Line experience. There are definitely a lot of ways that sailing the Disney way for your first voyage could be vastly different from an adults-only perspective and your overall enjoyment may depend on the following things:

    • The Itinerary and Ship Design: Fortunately, Disney Cruise Line offers a variety of shorter voyages to destinations that don't stray too far from Florida so that you can get a little taste of the cruise experience. Choosing to sail on a larger ship like the Disney Wish, the Disney Dream or the Disney Fantasy in Bahamian waters outside of hurricane season tends to be a nice starter experience for anyone worried about feeling the motion of the ocean too much.
    • Disney Entertainment and Character Sightings: There's no denying that the premium price of your voyage compared to cruising elsewhere for the first time is due to the inclusion of Disney Themed Entertainment from the carefully curated spaces to the nightly performances and exclusive experiences that we've come to expect from a Disney destination. If you're a frequent Theme Park-goer whose idea of fun and enjoyment includes taking advantage of meeting Characters and being involved in activities with a distinctly Disney flair, then you'll have plenty to keep yourself busy on board.
    • Children on Board: When it comes to younger sailors on board, you can bet that you'll probably find them everywhere - not just within their specially-designed youth spaces. Some folks have a higher comfort level and tolerance traveling among kids that aren't their own, and depending on the time of year, you may experience far more or far less than you'd expect. (If you're the kind that doesn't mind babies on airplanes or children among you in the Theme Parks, then your cruise should be smooth sailing - otherwise you might want to aim for longer itineraries and steer clear from school holidays.)
    • Quiet places to Escape Onboard: There are however, Adults-Only locations like the Quiet Cove Pool, the Rainforest Room and select restaurants where you can relax and enjoy yourselves if you need a little extra vacation away from the vacationing families! (These coveted quiet spaces can be lucrative treasure for fellow seafarers on a similar quest for tranquility!)
    • Nightlife and Evening Happenings: If your vision of a cruise vacation includes disco dancing or gambling at a casino with an unlimited drink package, you likely won't find any of the above onboard Disney Cruise Line. There are still a number of great evening hotspots for adults to enjoy some entertainment and a beverages, but you might find it immediately get quieter when it's bedtime for our younger sailors.
For more help planning, you're always welcome to submit as many questions as you'd like here to our Disney Cruise Line Specialists Tracie and Adrianna as you prepare to set sail for the first time!

Here's to getting your feet wet and earning your sea legs!
