Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Evelyn!
I was so excited to see your question about
Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort because I'm constantly praising this property to anyone who will listen! Evelyn, one of the reasons my husband and I love our
Disney Vacation Club Membership is because, while we cherish the parks, we appreciate the ability to enjoy beach resorts like Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort and
Disney's Vero Beach Resort.
Since you'll be headed to the low county this summer, here a few traveling tips.
First, this property moves at a different pace. What do I mean? As hectic as the parks can sometimes feel, you will find a serene environment that will have you strolling instead of rushing. Time truly does seem to slow down here and as the sea calls to Moana, those hammocks will call out to you.
Second, while there IS Disney magic, you WON'T find any of the famous characters (
think, Character Dining at the Walt Disney World Resort). Evelyn, I made sure to let my kids know in advance so they knew what to expect. We were, however, introduced to Shadow, the only official K-9 Cast Member!
Third, make sure to pack snacks. While there is a
Quick-Service window at the resort and another
Quick-Service option at the beach house across the road, we were thankful that we had packed snacks, drinks, breakfast options and more. Unlike the Walt Disney World Resort where we eat all meals on property, here we utilized our kitchen and the outdoor grills all around the grounds. There are also great restaurant options off property, accessible by walking or a short drive.
Next, make sure to pick up a calendar of events as soon as you check-in. From pool parties to wreath making and of course,
Mickey Tie Dye, you'll find lots of activities during your stay. Some are complimentary, while others have a nominal fee. My kids also loved hitting a few balls on the putting greens, playing ping pong and trying their hand at pool every day we were there.
Last, I would encourage you to drive to the beach. There is a
complimentary shuttle that you can also take back and forth, but we found that driving allowed us more flexibility in our day. The beach access is approximately 1 mile from the resort and while I was concerned that this would be inconvenient, I actually didn't mind at all! We simply piled into the van and were walking onto the sand in less than 10 minutes. We also loved taking beach breaks at
Disney's Beach House and enjoying a DOLE Whip. Yes, a DOLE Whip!
Evelyn, I hope this helps as you are thinking ahead to your beach vacation. I hope that you love Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort as much as I do. Once you're there, I feel certain you'll understand why this place holds a special spot in my heart.
Best wishes to you and your whole family for an unforgettable trip. Please come back and see us here at the Disney Parks Moms Panel with any other questions you might have,
Lauren
