I am looking book a cruise for October 8th sailing. My sister is just turning 12 on November 24th and will only have one dose of her Covid vaccine. Would she still be able to go if she test negative before the cruise and at the terminal?

    Hi Brittany!

So glad to have you onboard here at planDisney! Cruising with Captain Mickey makes for a fun family vacation, and sharing that with your little sister is an amazing idea. I hope it will be the best sisterly bonding experience for you both!

Kudos to you for wanting to make sure you can meet all the cruise requirements before making a reservation. I know that Disney Cruise Line has everything well outlined on the Know Before You Go section of the website, but it’s reassuring just to verify that you have met all the testing hurdles before traveling.

As I read your question, it appears your sister is going to be 11 both at the time of sailing and during your voyage. If that is the case, then she will not have to be fully vaccinated (because she would still be under the age of 12). Therefore, she would need a negative COVID-19 test (rapid PCR or lab-based PCR test only) at least 3 days before but no more than 24 hours prior to your sail date AND also a negative test at the port. It gets more complicated if she was already 12 years old or turning 12 during the cruise. But let’s not muddy the waters and keep it simple here. Yes, you can book this October 8th voyage even though she is not fully vaccinated...but that’s only because she is under the age of 12.

Since you are in Florida, perhaps you will want to take advantage of having your sister’s pre-testing done at one of the Inspire Diagnostics testing sites set up for Disney Cruise Line Guests in Central Florida. This can be done 1 to 3 days before your sail date, and the beauty is you are assured to get your test results back in time. Results take 24 to 48 hours to process and will be sent to your email address you provided to the Safe Passage website. These testing locations are at the Orlando International Airport and the Radisson Resort in Cape Canaveral, Florida.

So I guess this gives you the green light to make this Disney cruise reservation, doesn’t it? (That is, if you haven’t already!) Say Brittany, promise me you will check back in with us if you have any other questions for us. Sending you lots of pixie dust for your adventure at sea!

    Happy Sailing!
