Hello, Nicole! Welcome to planDisney.
I love chatting with a fellow resident of the Sunshine State! We are so lucky to have two amazing Disney Cruise Line departure ports. Last November, I was scheduled to sail aboard the
Disney Wish for the very first time. I was so excited. What can go wrong in November? Well, the Atlantic had other plans, and a hurricane swept in. I’m happy to share my experience sailing during hurricane season and hopefully put your mind at ease.
Safety is Disney Cruise Line’s top priority. They monitor each and every storm closely and make adjustments as needed. In my situation, the hurricane had left our area, but Port Canaveral was still assessing the storm damage. I received several emails throughout the day regarding when we should arrive at the port. While we were delayed arriving, the ship did sail, and we had sunny skies and smooth seas.
If you’re on a ship and a storm approaches, the captain will attempt to navigate around the storm. Sometimes
ports are canceled or changed. This information is shared via shipboard announcements and the
Disney Cruise Line Navigator app. Many factors are outside Disney’s control when dealing with the weather. Purchasing the
Disney Cruise Line Vacation Protection Plan or travel insurance from your favorite provider is always a good idea for peace of mind.
Nicole, while I may not be able to predict when a hurricane will make landfall, I can guarantee that your voyage will be filled with priceless memories. With immersive dining experiences, beautiful Bahamian ports of call, and family-friendly entertainment, there’s magic for Guests of all ages on board. As your plans start to take shape, please sail our way again. We love sharing our experiences with you!
SEAS the adventure!
