Hi Cindy, and welcome to planDisney!
I can’t believe that it’s almost that time of year for the
runDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend. The Lion King theme for the 10-Miler is perfect, and you’ll be singing “Hakuna Matata” as you cross the finish line. I’d love to share my own corral experiences with you, Cindy.
I’ve had my fair share of last corral experiences at runDisney. I’m an early bird, so I usually show up to the main gathering area an hour before the race begins. From there, you’ll be asked to join your corral group. (AN EXTRA GEM: Just before gearing up for the race in the corral, I like to use the restroom in the portable stalls because the wait can be long and I try my best not to use the restroom during the race.) I like to place as much distance as I can between myself and the balloon ladies, the crew who mark the 16:00 minute pace at the back of the race, so I get as close to the front of the group as possible.
Runners are usually sent out in waves within a corral. So, you could leave in the front group one hour after the first corral group leaves or a bit longer if you’re closer to the back near the balloon ladies. In general, set your expectations for about an hour.
Just to give you a more specific example: Last year during the Toy Story 10-Miler, I started in the second-to-last corral and my husband and I took off at 5:50 a.m. That means that it took 50 minutes from the first group to our group to begin. I figure that the final corral probably started to leave at 6 a.m.
I’m sending a lot of pixie dust your way, Cindy. If you have any other questions about your upcoming race and vacation,
revisit us here at planDisney. Keep training hard, and see you real soon!
Magic always,
LeAndra
