Hello Taylor and welcome to planDisney!
Your interesting question made me so happy! I'm so delighted because
"it's a small world" is actually my favourite childhood
Attraction at Walt Disney World Resort, and to this day, a visit to the
Magic Kingdom Park is never quite complete unless I've boarded the happiest cruise that ever sailed!
"it's a small world" is one of the opening day Attractions that debuted on October 1st, 1971 at Walt Disney World Resort; so of course we can all wish "it's a small world" a happy half-century during
The World's Most Magical Celebration for the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World Resort!
To answer your question Taylor, about how long it took to make "it's a small world" - because we know that the Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World took 18-months to construct, and that 'it's a small world" debuted on opening day, I'd have to conclude that it took 18-months!
However, originally "it's a small world" was imagined by WED Enterprises (
Walter
Elias
Disney Enterprises) for the 1964 New York World's Fair UNICEF Pavillion, and it took 11 months for the project to complete. Once the New York World's Fair closed "it's a small world" was carefully dismantled piece by piece and relocated to Disneyland Resort in 1966 where it can still be enjoyed by Mouseketeers of all ages today!

Taylor, I hope that I've been able to offer you a
small insight today! If you should have any further
planDisney questions for me concerning an upcoming visit to the magic of
Walt Disney World Resort, then please do pop back any time!
Have a great Disney day ~ Jane
