Hey Howdy Hey Amanda and welcome to planDisney!
Thank you for stopping by with your question about the lifespan of MagicBands. I will be happy to give you a little more insight as things have recently changed in a big way for the lifespan of these MagicBands.
Past generations of
MagicBands came in all sorts of fun styles and colors and were so fun to collect. In past conversations with Cast Members, these bands were said to last about 2-3 years until the battery ran out. The battery in these bands was not able to be charged or changed out so the effective lifespan of these bands was about 2-3 years. There are some sites out there that claim that these MagicBands can effectively last indefinitely when it comes to things like tapping into the parks and opening your Disney Resorts Collection hotel room. But the full capabilities of the bands including linking your photos to your My Disney Experience account usually are unable to be performed after the battery runs about at around the 2-3 year mark.
Disney has recently launched the new
MagicBand+ which is a game-changer in so many ways. With these bands, you can recharge the batteries and will last at least a full day on a charge if not longer depending on usage. These bands are also so much more for your experience in the parks. You can use the MagicBand+ to become part of the story in
Star Wars: Galaxies Edge in Hollywood Studios and roam through Batuu as a Bounty Hunter looking for hidden treasures. You can stop by and say "Hello" to the
Disney Fab 50 Character Collection Statues for a special greeting and become part of the nighttime firework show with special lighting synchronized to the shows! There are so many unique ways to interact with the parks with the new MagicBand+!
If you are thinking of taking older MagicBands with you on your next trip and are unsure of their age, I would also recommend looking into
Dinsey MagicMobile Pass. This works similarly to MagicBands but is free to set up right from your
My Disney Experience app on your smart device.
Best of luck as you continue to plan for your upcoming vacation and please feel free to stop back and let us know if you have any further questions, we would be happy to help!
Have a Magical Day,
Nick
