Welcome to planDisney, Dawn!
You have asked a fantastic question about those tried and true original MagicBands. They've been making guests' visits to
Walt Disney World so much easier for over a decade!
Before there was the rechargeable
MagicBand+, those innovative MagicBands were a game changer. I have several from years ago, and although most folks state their batteries last about 2-3 years, some of mine have lasted quite a bit longer. While short range capabilities--such as tapping your band to enter the parks and rides--may last longer, some guests report that long range uses such as attraction photos may not function once that MagicBand ages.
The good news is that you can bring your "vintage" (as my kids would call them) MagicBands with you on your upcoming visit, and see if they work. Try tapping as you enter a park, make a purchase, or when you get a pic taken using
Disney PhotoPass Service. If you realize "now it's time to say goodbye" to that band, not to worry. There are plenty of places throughout the parks, resorts, and
Disney Springs to purchase a new
MagicBand+.
Should you decide you'd like to bring a new MagicBand+ with you, check out the styles available right now at
Disney Store. (I do not need another one, but my goodness, just look at that Cinderella Castle MagicBand+. Isn't she lovely?)
Dawn, I'm wishing boatloads of pixie dust for the long life of your classic MagicBand. As you plan all the details of your next visit to The Most Magical Place on Earth, be sure to send additional questions our way. We love to help!
