Kachow, Jared!
Welcome to planDisney, and thank you so much for racing by with your question. Jared, I am a huge fan of both the Lightning Lane Multipass and the Single Lightning Lane options, so let's get to the nuts and bolts of the Lightning Lane booking process.
Jared, to start, if you are a Guest of a Disney Resort Hotel, you will be able to buy and choose your first three attractions for your Lightning Lane Multipass for each day you plan to visit the theme parks during your vacation, beginning 7 days prior to Check-In. If you are a day Guest, you will have this option 3 days prior to your park visit.
When you purchase your pass and make your first selections, you don't have to choose the same attractions for everyone. Each ticketed Guest in your party has to have their own Lightning Lane Pass to use this system, but the attraction selections can vary. When you select an attraction, it will ask you who in your party will join you on that attraction. So if your wife doesn't want to join you on a specific attraction, you can opt not to select her when making a selection. She can choose a different attraction to ride if she likes or wait to choose one until a later time.
At any time, those with a Lightning Lane Multipass can hold up to three Lightning Lane selections, but you don't have to have three. You just can't book another one until you tap into one of the attractions so that you are never holding more than three at a time (unless you also have purchased the Single Lane attractions, which are different than those in the Multi Pass.)
Now, let's say you all have the same
Lightning Lane Multi Pass booked, like Tiana's Bayou Adventure, and your wife decides at the last minute not to join you. She can cancel her Lightning Lane and then she would be able to book another attraction (again, so that she never has more than three booked at a time.) Canceling an attraction will not impact any other attractions she has booked or anyone else's bookings.
My younger son gets motion sickness, and sometimes, after a few rides, he and my husband will opt out of something we have booked. I just cancel them from the Lightning Lane reservation, and I go on the attraction with my other two kids. My son and husband can either wait for us or choose another available attraction at that time to book a Lightning Lane.
One final thing to know, Jared. For the Lightning Lane Multi Pass, in three of the parks (EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and Magic Kingdom,) there are two tiers of attractions. You can reserve one attraction in Tier 1 and two attractions in Tier 2, or all three attractions in Tier 2. As soon as you tap into your first selection, you can then select the next one. At any time, you can hold three reservations, but there always can only be one in Tier 1 and two in Tier 2 or all three in Tier 2 (if you don't have a Tier 1 reservation). So, if you have to cancel a Lightning Lane reservation, just note this tier system as it may impact what you can book in its place.
If you plan to Park Hop, you can use your Lightning Lane Multipass for your second park. However, you will only be able to pre-select your first three Lightning Lane attractions in one park for that day. Once you are in the park, you could select ones from your second park as long as you only hold three reservations in their respective tiers at a time. You can find a complete list of the attractions in the
Lightning Lane Multi Pass Tiers here. I hope this helps you, Jared! If you have any further questions, make a pitstop here, and I'll help you faster than fast and quicker than quick.
Git R' Done!
