Is the LL Premier Pass worth the cost?

Hey, Leasa! Welcome back to planDisney. I see that you’re interested in the Lightning Lane Premier Pass. This is an awesome experience that Disneyland Resort offers that will surely bring the magic to your visit.

The Lightning Lane Premier Pass (LLPP) lets you ride most high-demand rides one time using the Lightning Lane, which is typically much shorter than the standby line. This pass is valuable because you don’t have to schedule your arrival, and you don’t have to space out the times you arrive at attractions. You can simply go from one ride to the next and use the Lightning Lane each time. Not scheduling arrivals really takes the pressure off. I’ll admit that when I have a Lightning Lane Multipass, I spend a lot more time on my phone instead of enjoying the parks. Not scheduling arrival times solves that problem.

Lightning Lane Premier Pass is subject to availability, and the price may vary, with higher prices for days with high demand. Also, you must have a park hopper ticket and a park reservation before purchasing the Premier Pass. You can check for availability and purchase a Premier Pass seven days before your visit, starting at 7:00 a.m. Pacific Time.

To decide if the LLPP is worth the cost depends on your expectations. Here are some questions to ask yourself:

    • How many days do you plan to visit? If you have a 3-day ticket, you may be better off paying for a LL Multipass for each day, which will still be less money overall, and you should be able to experience all the attractions you hope to hit within those three days. If you’re only going to be there one day, the LL Premier Pass would definitely help you experience a lot more.

    • Will you visit again in the future? If you’re the type that knows this is a once-in-a-lifetime visit, then it would make sense to go all out and get the Premier Pass. If you visit annually, or even know you’ll be out in a few years, I’d consider Lightning Lane Multipass, keep track of what you don’t get to do, and make sure to experience those next time. On that topic, keep in mind there are new attractions opening in the next few years, so I’d say plan to come again, no matter what.

    • Can you afford it? If you have a small party and the cost of tickets and LLPP is within your budget, go for it! Keep in mind the cost of the pass is in addition to the cost of the park hopper ticket.

    • Will this allow you to experience the parks the way you want? If you’re on Team No Sleep and want to rope drop in the morning, ride every ride, and close the parks down at night, this is your jam! If you want access to the Lightning Lane so you don’t have to feel rushed and plan to sit down for table service at your meals, this might also allow you to do exactly that - skip the lines so you can slow down.

Leasa, I’d set a countdown to seven days before your visit, and log in to purchase the Lightning Lane Premier Pass to see what the cost is. Between now and then, I hope you find some clarity about your priorities and what you think will make your day as magical as possible, so you can feel good about the decision you’ve made either way.
