Live in Knoxville, TN & driving to WDW 5/30-6/4/11 w/, DH, DDs 6 & 3, DS 2. Staying in Valdosta, GA overnight to break up the drive 4 the 3 & 2yo. What's your thoughts, being from TN? Save money and drive straight to or save sanity and take th

    Hi TN neighbor!

Your drive will be about 11 hours. Are your children used to long car rides?

If not, I would break up the trip for your sanity. When our son was 2, six hours in the car was nearing his limit of tolerance for staying seated so long. Of course, if your kids sleep in the car, you may be able to get farther. Unfortunately, my son almost never slept in the car, therefore he was absolutely miserable once he got tired until he could lie down somewhere to sleep. Strange, but true.

It's best to tailor your journey according to your own children's travel experience and tolerance levels.

It's worth it to arrive your vacation well-rested in order to make the most of your trip. Now that our son is 11, we've been able to travel up to 12 hours in a single day. We didn't start out traveling that way though!

To reduce your road costs, try priceline for an overnight hotel. Pack snacks and drinks for the car ride. Take breaks at fast food restaurants with play lands!

We have an only child that was very used to six hour car rides by the time we first traveled to WDW (and that was from our then home in PA) but it would have driven us all over the edge to be in a car for 11 hours with a 2 year old.

Of course, if your kids will sleep in the car, you could time your drive accordingly!!

Let me know if I can help with any further questions. I wish you a SAFE drive and a magical vacation!
