I live in California and wish to buy a magic band + for my son. However, he wants an Epcot band and on shop disney and it states that currently magic bands are enabled for use at Walt Disney Resort only. Don't want to buy if this is true?

    Hiya, Meredith!

Thank you so much for sending this Disneyland Resort MagicBand question to us hEAR at planDisney! I'm Kristen, and I'm so happy to be your planEAR today!

Oh boy! Your son is a Mouseketeer after my own hEARt. MagicBands are a really fun and convenient way to easily access your Theme Park Admission Tickets, grab any Disney PhotoPass Photos taken, and redeem Genie+ Lightning Lane attraction reservations. These colorful bands have only been at The Happiest Place on Earth for a few weeks, and while they do more at Mickey's other house on the East Coast, my fingers are crossed that we'll get more of those wearable superpowers on the West Coast Best Coast soon!

I secretly love the history of this wearable tech. I also agree that it can be a bit confusing now that these hands-free helpers are in their third iteration in less than 10 yEARs, and currently two versions are for sale. The short answer is that yes, as long as the EPCOT band is a MagicBand+ style, then it will be able to work at both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort.

The long answer: The MagicBand+ system that launched at both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort this yEAR does support all MagicBand+ bands. When looking at ShopDisney or at bands in person, you'll see either "MagicBand+" or "MagicBand 2". There's something about how MagicBand 2 (and even the original MagicBands from 2013-2016) will continue to work at World because the same previously used system had a bit of a tech update which is what supports the newest features of the Plus style bands. However, only MagicBand+ will work at Disneyland; this is because Walt's original park had to install everything from scratch anyway, so they chose to utilize a brand new system that only supports the newest features.

Hopefully, you're still following along, Meredith. If not, hEAR are two really good posts from the Disney Parks Blog explaining what MagicBand+ can do at both Disneyland Resort as well as Walt Disney World Resort.

I hope that this helped to clEAR up your question, Meredith, and that your son remembers that you're the Best! Mom! Ever! every time he uses his brand new MagicBand+.
