How to link magic band plus for Disney cruise

    Hi there, Vicki!

I love that we can bring the MagicBand+ devices we use at the Walt Disney World Resort with us on our Disney Cruise Line vacations. They are usually called DisneyBand+ when traveling on your Disney cruise. But even the DisneyBand+ you can purchase onboard your ship can be used as a MagicBand+ at the Walt Disney World Resort or even the Disneyland Resort. No matter where you use them, they are fantastic technology that helps to make a Disney vacation more convenient and magical.

To use your DisneyBand+ during your Disney cruise, simply bring it with you on your embarkation day. The Cast Member who helps you check in at the cruise ship terminal will use their tablet to associate your DisneyBand+ with you and your onboard account so that you can use it to board the ship, unlock your stateroom, purchase souvenirs and other items or services on board, and enjoy fun surprises that draw you into stories and entertainment experiences in a way that only Disney can. In some rare cases, a DisneyBand+ may be unable to link to a particular passenger while you are still in the cruise terminal if it is already associated with someone else's Guest profile. This happened with the DisneyBand+ we wanted to use for our daughter on our cruise last month when it seemed the band was linked to my Guest profile instead of hers. We had another band she could use instead. But the Cast Members at the Guest Services Desk onboard your ship can also help with reassigning bands and helping with other DisneyBand+ questions.

Once you have your DisneyBand+ linked to your account, you can use the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app to pair your band to your mobile phone so you can download updates and configure features on the band. To do so, you'll have to connect your mobile phone to the DCL-Guest WiFi, look for the DisneyBand+ screen, and follow the in-app instructions. Your DisneyBand+ will need to be charged to pair with your phone or to interact with certain spaces and entertainment offerings during your cruise. But don't worry. Even if your DisneyBand+ isn't charged, it will still work for opening your stateroom, making onboard purchases, and other similar tap actions.

Tony's Tip: You can connect to DCL-Guest to unlock complimentary onboard features of the Navigator app even if you do not purchase an Internet connection package during your voyage. In most cases, you can even connect to DCL-Guest WiFi while still in the cruise terminal before boarding. And it's also available at select locations at Disney Castaway Cay and Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point! My friend used her purchased Internet connection package to video chat with family members back home while she was relaxing with the rest of us on the beach at Castaway Cay.

I hope you have a magical cruise, Vicki. If any more questions come to mind as you get ready to set sail, I hope you'll visit us again here at planDisney. As fellow Guests like you, it's a pleasure to help you make the most of your Disney vacations.

    See ya real soon, Vicki!
    ~Tony
