One of the greatest joys of Christmas present is remembering the joys of Christmas past. Mary, this is one of my favorite quotes from a comic my mom put on our refrigerator every year. It spoke to me as a kid as we decorated the tree with ornaments from years past. Now, it absolutely rings true as my tree is filled with memories of my childhood and my kids. Decorating the tree is not a task; it's a long, leisurely stroll down Memory Lane. It gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "family tree."
Like you, I loved the shimmering white lights covering
Cinderella Castle. Seeing it each year warmed my heart and made me feel, well, like a kid at Christmas! And as a girl from the deep South, it was the closest thing to the magic of a white Christmas I would get to see. I miss it. And although I love the spectacle of the projections on the castle, the nostalgia isn't the same for me. But it is for my kids. It's now what they think of when we talk about going to the Most Magical Place on Earth during the most wonderful time of the year. Time moves on, and I am finding consolation in the joy the new castle displays bring them.
I am thankful other favorite traditions remain, like the gingerbread cookies from the
Main Street Confectionery. These cookies are divine! Unlike anything I can buy at a grocery store or bakery at home, these are a Disney-only moment that celebrates the holidays in my favorite place.
I know. I know. Nothing can replace the lights on the castle. Hopefully, this joy of Christmas past adds to the memories and stories that make Christmas present so magical.
Wishing Upon a Star for the Magic of the Holidays!
