Welcome back to planDisney, Cassie! Thank you for reaching out with your question. How exciting that you’re getting ready to experience the magic of
Walt Disney World! I’d be happy to help you understand how Lightning Lane works with Rider Switch so you can make the most of your time in the parks and enjoy the attractions with your whole family.
Rider Switch allows one adult or party to ride while another adult waits with a child or guest who cannot ride. After the first group rides, the waiting adult can ride without waiting in the regular line again. A Cast Member will provide a Rider Switch scan or pass so the waiting adult can enter the Lightning Lane or regular line depending on availability.
Lightning Lane works with Rider Switch, but the first party must have a Lightning Lane selection or pay for a Single Lightning Lane to ride. The waiting adult can then use the Rider Switch to enter the Lightning Lane without needing their own Lightning Lane selection. Usually, up to two guests on the waiting side can use Rider Switch, allowing them to ride without booking separately.
Not all riders need a Lightning Lane. The first riding party must have it, but the second adult or party can use the Rider Switch scan to enter without purchasing or booking another Lightning Lane. Children who couldn’t ride the first time can ride with the waiting adult if they are eligible.
Cassie, I hope this explanation helps you feel excited and prepared to make the most of Rider Switch and Lightning Lane during your Disney World visit. With these tools, you and your family can enjoy the attractions efficiently while keeping everyone included, no matter their age or height. Thank you for reaching out to planDisney with your question, and wishing you a magical, stress free, and unforgettable vacation filled with laughter, joy, and special moments together!
