Hi, Lindsey! Welcome to planDisney.
Rider Switch is such a helpful option for families, especially when you've got a mix of kiddos who meet height requirements and those who don't. It allows everyone who's tall enough to enjoy the attraction without doubling your time in line. As a Disney dad, it's one of my favorite things!
Here's how it works with
Lightning Lane: Your whole group will approach the Cast Member at the entrance. You'll let them know you'd like to use Rider Switch, and they'll set it up. One adult waits with the non-rider whilst the other adult goes through the Lightning Lane with the children who are riding. When that first group returns, the waiting adult can use Lightning Lane to ride without waiting all over again, and one child can join them.
If you're using the standby line, it's very similar. The first adult waits with the non-rider whilst the other adult goes through standby with the children who are riding. When the first group finishes, the waiting adult (plus one kid) can return through the Lightning Lane entrance.
Sometimes families will switch which kids ride with which parent so that the children get to experience the attraction twice, once with each adult. It can make Rider Switch extra fun for them whilst still saving the grown-ups from waiting in line twice.
Rider Switch is a great way to make sure no one misses out on the thrills whilst keeping things smooth for your family. I hope this helps you plan out your ride strategy, Lindsey.
Walt Disney World is the best place in the world for kids. You're going to have so much fun with your Mouseketeers!
Happy planning!
Mike
