Ahoy, Karin!
Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! It sounds like you're getting ready for a journey at sea aboard the Disney Magic. As a mama to a little one with medical challenges, I understand how important it is to know what kind of medical care is available, just in case you or a family member
becomes sick in the middle of the cruise!
The
Health Center onboard each ship is open daily during clinic hours for non-emergency medical care. If a Guest is in need of emergency care, there is a doctor and nurse on-call 24/7! Also, the medical personnel are employed by an outside independent company and are able to handle a wide range of medical needs. I spoke with my friends at Disney Cruise Line and they shared that the physicians onboard specialize in family and internal medicine as well as emergency care. For example, if someone sailing with you becomes sick and needs antibiotics, the Health Center would be able to diagnose the illness and give the person medication in order to get them back to enjoying their vacation as soon as possible!
I do want to mention that insurance plans are not accepted onboard. On the off-chance you need to visit the Health Center, your stateroom account would be charged for both the visit and any medications given to you. Then, the Health Center would give you a detailed receipt that you could submit to your insurance provider once you return home.
I'm hoping that you and your pirate crew have a healthy upcoming voyage! If you have any other questions, please sail back and visit us again!
