    Hi Tonya,

What time you want to book dinner totally depends on your family's preferences. My children are older and my husband and I are night owls, so we tend to book our dinners around 8:30 and then return to a park if we can. This works especially well if we are dining near Magic Kingdom, which tends to be open later than other parks.

If you have younger children, you likely will want to eat earlier. You will have the same experience, regardless of when you dine.

Now for the second part of your question. From Magic Kingdom, it's an easy 10=to 15-minute walk to the Contemporary resort, home of Chef Mickey's. You also can take the monorail, but we find the walk faster and easier. If you exit at least 30 minutes before your reservation, you will be able to make the walk in plenty of time.

The trip from Epcot to Downtown Disney is a little more complicated and time-consuming. Buses do not run directly from the theme parks to Downtown Disney.

My suggestion for the fastest route from Epcot would be to exit through the International Gateway between France and the United Kingdom pavilions and walk or take the boat to the nearby Boardwalk resort. There, you can catch a bus to Downtown Disney with minimal stops. My husband and I did this last week, and the entire trip only took about 30 minutes. However, I would make sure to exit at least an hour before your reservation since you will be there during a busy season.

From the front of Epcot, the fastest route to Downtown Disney probably is to take a bus to the Saratoga Springs resort. From there, you can take a water taxi or walk to Downtown Disney. Again, I would allow at least an hour to an hour and a half for transportation time.

I hope you are able to get the reservations you want at a perfect time for your family and that you have a wonderful holiday visit. Please let me know if I can offer any more help as you plan. Enjoy!
