Leaving KC at noon, arrive at MCO at 4. 6 days in AKL. Grandaughter's (5) first trip to the World. What should we do the first evening to help her burn off steam? Swim at AKL, Epcot fireworks? We want to start on the right foot for a weeks stay.

    Hi Grace,

Very excited for your upcoming trip! AKL is amazing & you're going to love it!  If you're leaving KC at noon, you'll probably be getting up early for final preparations to get to the airport early enough to get though security. Once you land at MCO at 4 p.m., you still have to get to AKL. I'm not sure if you're taking Magical Express or not but if so, it could take awhile before you actually get to AKL. At that point, it will already have been a long day.

If you've got six magical days at WDW, I'd recommend exploring AKL, taking advantage of some of the amenities, grabbing dinner and getting to bed early. Many of the rooms have savanna views but there is also an outdoor viewing area that you could visit.  The pool is huge and your granddaughter would probably love to go for a swim. There is also the Hakuna Matata playground near the pool where she could burn off some energy.  If she's into video games, check out Pumbaa's Fun & Games & Safari.

You could go over to Epcot for Illuminations but then you have to make your way back through the crowds, get back to your resort and go through your nighttime routine to get her bed. Since it will be a new place for her to sleep in, it may take a little extra time to get to sleep.  I think you'll be happy that you kept it low key your first evening.

Sending you lots of pixie dust for a very magical vacation!
