Welcome Aboard, Candace!
Thank you so much for stopping by the Moms Panel with your question. I'm happy to help!
The cabanas on Castaway Cay are certainly a hot ticket - reservations usually fill up very quickly, often on the first day they become available. No need to worry - there are plenty of nice, shady spots on the beach for you and your little buccaneer!
Beach chairs and umbrellas are provided free of charge when you visit Disney's private island, and are plentiful. The brightly-colored umbrellas are large, and will provide a perfect amount of shade for you and your family. I've found that if you choose chairs close to the paved walkway, there are plenty of palm trees lining the walk that also provide shade.
When it's time for lunch, head on over to Cookie's BBQ or Cookie's Too for a delicious barbeque lunch with all the "fixins" - included in the price of your cruise. You'll find a lovely shaded pavilion where you can sit and enjoy your island feast. Make sure to save room for some yummy soft-serve ice cream, as there's a self-serve "all- you-care-to-enjoy" ice cream machine right there on the island!
While the umbrella supply at Castaway Cay is plentiful, guests claim their "spot-of-the-day" on a first-come, first-serve basis. I would suggest trying to leave the ship as early as you feel comfortable on your day at Castaway Cay to ensure you are able to get the perfect spot for you and your family.
I hope this helps with your planning. It's almost time for you to sail away with Captain Mickey - yahoo!
Have a magical day! - Diane W.
