Leaving for DW in 12 days. Driving from Ohio staying from the 30th till Dec 8th.Staying at PO Riverside. My question will it be better to just drive ourselfs to the parks or use disney transportation. I see mixed reviews. Will drivin ourselves save us time

    Hi Heather,

We have driven to Disney many times, and, for the most part, we use Disney transportation to get to and from the parks.  We find it to be reliable, convenient and hassle-free.  When we have either our own car, or a rental, we use it to travel between resorts (for example, when we have dinner reservation at a resort we aren't staying at), to get to Downtown Disney in the evenings occasionally, and to go off property for grocery runs.

In most cases, I don't feel that you save much time by driving to and from the parks.  At the Magic Kingdom, for example, you will need to park your car at the Transportation and Ticket Center, and then switch to a monorail or boat to get to the park.  Depending upon where your parking spot is, you may also need to take a tram to the Transportation and Ticket Center.  Parking at the other parks is a bit more convenient, but I still haven't found driving to be significantly better from a time perspective.

I will say having your own car to travel between resorts can definitely save quite a bit of time. There is no direct transportation between resorts.  Instead, you would need to "transfer" at one of the theme parks or Downtown Disney and then head to your destination via bus, boat or monorail.  I would keep this in mind if you have dinner plans at other resorts.

Whether you use your own "wheels," leave the Disney to driving, or do a combination of the two, have a great time!
