I am leaving for Disney in 3 days, yay! I resently had a surgery that makes it difficult for me to eat any red meat and anything greasy, especially things that are deep fried. Any suggestions on places that I would have options in the parks?

    Britn'y:

I cannot think of another theme park that can accommodate dietary needs better than Disney. Here are my recommendations:

Magic Kingdom: The Chicken Strawberry Salad at The Plaza Restaurant is one of my favs with its grilled chicken and yummy vinaigrette. Get the gorgonzola on the side if you're concerned about extra fat. Its Vegetarian Sandwich is also another pick of mine. The Grilled Salmon with broccoli and couscous at Columbia Harbor House is excellent for counter service.

Epcot: You have so many choices in this park but Sunshine Seasons and Tangierine Café provide healthful ones for counter service. The Mediterranean Chicken Wrap (Takizi sauce on the side) or Vegetarian Platter at Tangierine are my go-to choices. The fresh tuna salad at Sunshine Seasons usually gets my order but the grilled fish is also a low-fat option. Stay away from the rotisserie chicken here and at other restaurants on property with its higher fat.

Hollywood Studios: Studio Catering Co. is a hidden gem with fresh offerings from its Greek Salad to Turkey Club. ABC Commissary provides a menu with lots of salads featuring quinoa and couscous that are sure to fill you up along with low-fat protein like chicken and grilled fish.

Animal Kingdom: Head over to Pizzafari for its Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad. Just remember to order the dressing on the side. The Mandarin Chicken Salad at Yak and Yeti's counter service also provides a filling choice. Rainforest Café serves up an extensive menu that gives you the ability to find a few more choices like their yummy grilled shrimp skewers and several salads.

If you have the time, head to www.disneyworld.com and click on each theme park's dining subcategory. From there, you can look at many of the menus and decide in advance what you'd like.

    Wishing you a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
