Ahoy Janelle,
Thanks for visiting planDisney with your cruising question! My family was lucky enough to experience an Alaskan cruise on the Disney Wonder a few years ago. It was truly a once in a lifetime trip! I am happy to share some of my experiences with you.
The
Disney Wonder is a lovely ship. If you are used to sailing on the bigger ships, such as the Disney Dream and the Disney Fantasy, you will likely notice that the Disney Wonder is smaller. That said, it still has all of the magic! Our family very much enjoyed
Tiana's Place for dinner, with New Orleans flair and entertainment. My husband and I also frequented the
Cadillac Lounge for a nightcap. This lounge is classy and relaxing, and offered live entertainment such as piano music and singers each night.
Other touches on the Disney Wonder are found on the Alaskan itineraries. While this might seem silly, it always made us smile that on the pool decks where you would find towels if you were on a Bahamian or Caribbean cruise, on the Disney Wonder on an Alaskan sailing there were blankets for keeping warm on deck! These come in handy for the amazing nature sightseeing you can do from the decks of the ship nearly everywhere in Alaska. Also, be sure to look out for unique photo opportunities with characters. Where else will you find Minnie Mouse in a parka?
The Port Adventures we did while on this sailing were so memorable. In Skagway, we took the
White Pass Scenic Railway. This is a beautiful and historic ride. My daughter was inspired to do a social studies project on the White Pass Railway after this experience! I will say that truly a highlight of the trip was
dog sledding on a glacier in Juneau. My daughter took a helicopter ride to a glacier, where we were able to ride dog sleds. We met the people working with the dogs, and were able to ask questions and deeply interact with the people and the sled dogs. The experience was peaceful, amazing, and truly unique. There are so many
port adventures in Alaska - have fun exploring them all and choosing the one that is right for you!
Thank you for allowing me to relive some of this amazing trip with you, Janelle. Have a wonderful time planning your magical cruise, and do feel free to sail on back if you have any further questions!
