What’s the least crowded time of year to visit MK?

    Hi Matthew!

Thanks for stopping by planDisney with a great question. Determining what time of year to visit Walt Disney World Resort is the first step in planning a jolly holiday which we hope will be practically perfect in every way!

While I can't promise what the crowds will look like, there tends to be a few trends that I've noticed over the years.  First, the parks tend to be more crowded during school breaks or holidays - particularly summertime, the week of Thanksgiving, and the week between Christmas and the New Year.  With that in mind, lower crowds can typically be found the weeks immediately following these breaks - the month of September, the first week of December, and mid January through President's Day weekend.  Secondly, there are some special events that bring additional crowds to the parks such as runDisney race weekends and large youth sporting events at ESPN Wide World of Sports.  Walt Disney World Resort is truly a year round destination with much to offer for all ages and these popular events can be found happening throughout the year.

Regardless of when you visit, there are some great tips I can share to help you navigate any crowds you encounter. If you are staying at a Disney Resorts Collection hotel, you'll have access to Early Entry benefits which allow you to enter the park 30 minutes ahead of the scheduled opening time.  Disney Deluxe and Deluxe Villa Resorts currently offer extended evening hours on select nights at select parks.  These times will typically find less crowds and lower wait times for some of your favorite rides and attractions.

Disney Genie and Disney Genie+ service are also powerful tools to plan your day.  Disney Genie is a free tool in the My Disney Experience Mobile App that allows you to select some of your must-do rides and attractions for the day.  Once you enter your preferences, Genie will work his magic to provide personalized recommendations for your day.  When you purchase Disney Genie+, you take your park planning to the next level by gaining access to Lightning Lane entrance selections.  Whether you choose to purchase Disney Genie+ or not, you'll have the ability to request access to Virtual Queues and/or purchase Individual Lightning Lane entry for some of the most popular attractions like Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.

Another one of my favorite tips to save time and manage crowds in the parks is to use Mobile Food & Beverage Ordering - also found in the My Disney Experience app.  Placing your order ahead of time and then picking up your food when it's ready will make those Disney treats extra sweet!

Matthew, no matter what time you determine is right to visit Walt Disney World Resort, I hope you have the most magical time!  Please come see us again at planDisney if there are any other questions we can answer for you - we're all ears!
