Like the layout of the cabins at Ft Wilderness. Stayed at AOA in Feb, but long wait for busses with tired 3 yr old was hard. Since FW is so large, will we have same issue of long waits getting back to FW and then getting on internal busses?

    Hi Pamela!

My husband and I stay at the Fort Wilderness Campground Resort every fall for a couple of months. We love this unique Disney resort and the amenities it offers to its guests.

It is a large resort covering more land then any other on property. But that also makes it relaxing and peaceful and a great place for you to return to after busy days in the parks. The entire area is connected by an internal bus system similar to some of the other large resorts. But I have always found that these buses run efficiently and often so using them is quite easy at all times of day and night. Once you reach the main bus depot at the front of the resort you will then wait for the park buses. There is an electronic board which will show you the timing for the buses to the parks and how long you will need to wait. This has been a great addition so guests have a better idea of the wait. The bus depot is also located next to the riding stables where kids love to watch the horses making it a nice little distraction.

To reach the Magic Kingdom park from the Fort you will take the boats from the marina and this is a very easy system. It even drops you off directly at the entrance to the park! You will also find boats that can take you to both the Contemporary and Wilderness Lodge resorts adding another way to get from place to place easily.

If you have it in your budget I highly recommend considering renting a Golf Cart during your stay. This allows you to get around fast and easy at your convenience and everyone loves having the ride to and from the buses and marina. There is ample parking at both locations and each cabin or site will have power outlets for you to keep the carts charged when not in use.
