Jambo! Hello!
The
Wild Africa Trek tours depart from Harambe daily at 8:00, 9:00 and 10:00 a.m. Afternoon tours are at 12:00, 1:00 and 2:00 p.m.
After watching the ribbon cutting ceremony, I went on the first official Trek. Twende! Let's Go!
It was a chilly morning and we were given hot chocolate before
proceeding on our adventure. In Disney-style, our guides stayed in
character following a script but also engaging in conversation with the
trekkers. One guide was devoted to taking souvenir photographs which
would be placed on a PhotoPass CD. Each family was given a code to later
retrieve their photos.
From suiting up in our gear to crossing rope bridges over alligators, I
found the entire experience exhilarating. After hiking through the
backstage forest, viewing hippos and riding through the savanna on a
private truck, guests are treated to Jambo Juice and snacks at the Boma.
This private viewing area looks like a safari camp, yet it has modern
restrooms. There are also binoculars for viewing the animals.
Unless your resort has its own childcare facility, I recommend making a
reservation at Simba's Cubhouse at the Animal Kingdom Lodge due to its
close proximity to the Animal Kingdom park. You'll need to check-in to
the Wild Africa Trek at least 15-20 minutes prior to your tour. Use the
restrooms before you depart Harambe, it'll be about two hours before you
reach the Boma. You must wear closed-toe footwear.
Enjoy your exploration!
