Ahoy, Katy! Welcome to planDisney and thanks for bringing us your Disney Cruise Line question.
If you already booked a Disney Cruise Line reservation yourself and your reservation is eligible for modifications, then you should be able to
make changes to your booking via the website. Start by going to the
main website and clicking on the tab at the top right labeled “Already Booked,” you can then click on the option labeled “My Reservations” under “My Disney Cruise.” It will prompt you to login to your account and once you login there will be a page that shows your upcoming cruise and a drop-down menu with a list of all of your reservations. Once you access your reservation page, then you should be able to make a number of different
modifications, including adding or removing guests from your travel party. Alternatively, if your reservation was made through a travel agent or booked through the Disney Vacation Club, then you need to contact them directly to make this type of modification.
Although guests may theoretically be added to your sailing party up to the day before departure, there is no guarantee that you will actually be able to add a guest at the last minute because there are safety restrictions that limit the ship’s actual capacity. Even if your stateroom technically still has room for another occupant, you may not be allowed to add another guest if the muster station for your particular stateroom has already reached capacity. There are safety regulations in place that limit the number of passengers who may be assigned to a particular muster station because there must be sufficient lifeboat capacity in the case of an emergency. Whether you can actually add another guest is going to depend on the number of passengers and occupied staterooms that are already booked on your scheduled itinerary.
If you are considering adding another occupant to your stateroom, then I recommend doing it now rather than waiting to avoid any future problems. Remember that when you add a new passenger to your stateroom, there will be additional fares, fees, and taxes, which are usually based on the current prevailing rate instead of the rate at the time of your original booking. In other words, the cost of adding the extra passenger is likely to go up over time. As long as you keep the
cancellation deadlines in mind, then you will still have flexibility as you finalize your plans.
Remember that you can also call Disney Cruise Line directly at (800) 951-3532, and speak with cast members Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM EST, and Saturday and Sunday, 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM EST. Since the ability to modify your sailing party at the last minute is going to be dependent on the ship’s occupancy on your particular sailing dates, they will be able to give you the most up-to-date information. I wish you the best of luck finalizing your reservation. Happy sailing!
