Mom and Daughter at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort Room

    When we were last at WDW, we stayed at PO-R. We rode the boat down the Sassagoula River to Downtown Disney. As we going down the river, we noticed these cabins along the river. Are they a part of WDW resorts? If so, are they available to rent?

    I believe the “cabins” that you saw were the Treehouse Villas that were once opened for guests through the Disney Institute program. Prior to the Disney Institute, the villas were part of the Disney Village Resort. My in-laws stayed in a treehouse during this time and really liked their accommodations.

    For a while, the villas stood in disrepair from being badly damaged during a 2004 hurricane. It was sad to travel down the Sassagoula River and see them abandoned. However some of the treehouses have been renovated. They are now used to house the Cast Members with the International Exchange programs such as those working in Epcot’s World Showcase.

    I read a recent report (February 2008) in the Orlando Sentinel that the treehouses are planned to be torn down and re-built. This is fabulous news to guests who have fond memories staying in the treehouses after they were first opened in 1975.

    I will keep a look out for further information as I would love the chance to stay here. I hope your family gets the opportunity to stay some day in this remote part of Walt Disney World.
