On our last trip we arrived to DAK 30 min. before rope drop on a non EMH day in the hopes of running to Flights of Passage with minimal line. To our dismay there was already a 4 hour wait. How early does Disney actually allow guests to enter?

Hi, Steven!  Thanks for bringing your question to the Disney Parks Moms Panel.

Normally, I am not a morning person, but that all changes when I visit the Walt Disney World Resort!  I love to grab a cup of coffee and head to the theme park for rope drop.  There's nothing better than strolling through the park during the morning hours when crowds and temperatures are low.  Also, you can experience so many attractions in the mornings while wait times are shorter.

Of course, if you weren't able to score FastPass+ for one of the most popular attractions such as Avatar Flight of Passage at Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park, rope drop is the perfect time to head directly to that attraction, in the hopes of entering the queue before the wait time gets too long.  While park opening procedures are always subject to change, I have found that Cast Members often begin to let guests into the theme parks around an hour before the posted park opening time.  Guests usually do not have access to the entire theme park this early in the morning, and attractions are not yet open.  However, you will be able to get through security and the park gates promptly, and you can be among the first guests to start making their way toward the most popular attractions.

If you're hoping to arrive at the theme park gates more than an hour before the park opens, the Disney Minnie Van Service is a great transportation option.  The Disney Minnie Van Service begins operating daily at 6:30 a.m., which is typically earlier than the resort hotel buses begin running.  You can request and pay for a Minnie Van using the Lyft app on your phone, and a Cast Member will arrive in an adorable red and white polka dot vehicle to whisk you away to any location on Walt Disney World Resort property.

Oh, and if you are planning for rope drop because you weren't able to secure FastPass+ for a popular attraction, don't give up hope.  People's plans change all of the time, so you never know when another guest might cancel a FastPass+ selection.  Keep checking your My Disney Experience mobile app for additional FastPass+ availability.
