This is the last time I bother you, promise! Starting to get nervous about staying on upper level of WL with 5 & 7 yr old boys. Those railings look scary. It's so open. Can I let go of their hands or are they glued to me for the duration? Thanks aga

I am nervous about heights. I’m even more anxious about them since being a parent to a clumsy boy. I was very anxious when staying at the Wilderness Lodge with access to the balcony. I would keep the door locked unless we were accompanying our son outside. I know some families that actually take the patio furniture inside their room to avoid children from climbing on them.

On our second visit to the Wilderness Lodge we were in an upper floor with an enclosed balcony. This made me feel much more at ease. While our son could not see out, he was able to play with his toys on the balcony and get some fresh air. One of the best things from this room is that we could see the fireworks at night even while sitting on our bed. This was a sixth floor room with a courtyard view looking towards the Magic Kingdom. We could still enjoy the view while standing but not while sitting.

Still, my greatest preference is for a patio room. We had a patio room at the Polynesian which was delightful. No worries and we could walk right outside to enjoy the nice weather. We even had ducks greet us in the mornings.

So, it’s a toss up as to how to get the best view while feeling the most at ease with your boys. When we visit one of our favorite beach hotels, I request a lower floor room so that we still have a nice view of the ocean but I feel comfortable enough to enjoy room service breakfast on the balcony. Compromises!

Request the type of room that you think will work best for your family.
