We just last night booked our first disney trip--arriving by car on Jan. 25. We will leave the 31st, early. Kids are 5,6,9,11. Camping at Ft. Wilderness. Did a 6-day pass, b/c about same price as 4 day. Wondering what order to do parks, what days, etc

    Wendy! A fellow camper!

First of all, I think you'll fall in love with Fort Wilderness!

You didn't mention if you are tent-camping or pulling a trailer, but I recommend resisting the urge to just pull in and hit the parks. Our family enjoys our stays much better when we allow a good two hours or so to get our campsite set up, check out our surroundings (like the comfort station), and organize ourselves for the week.

We have found that Ft. Wilderness has more activities (like Bingo and kid's activities) on weekends than they do on weekdays, so when you check-in, look at the weekly activities newsletter you'll receive right away. Now you may be thinking, "Why would I choose Bingo over Buzz Lightyear?" The same reason why so many of us camp: the friendly surroundings and memories created as you explore Pioneer Hall, the Meadow Trading Post, and the nightly movie and campfire sing-along. As a first-timer to Ft. Wilderness, I would also recommend checking out the camping threads at www.disboards.com. You'll find pictures and hints on what to take and expect from this one-of-a-kind campground.

January is value season at Ft. Wilderness so planning an exact touring plan for the parks isn't as crucial, but the campground may begin filling up toward the end of the week in anticipation of the Super Bowl in Tampa on Feb. 1. You may find higher crowds as the weekend approaches, so visit Epcot toward the end of the week since it handles crowds better and definitely visit Magic Kingdom earlier in the week. For more thoughts on when to visit the parks, check out my response to a family last week by clicking here.

    Enjoy!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
