When I was last at Disney World I tried to do the rider switch program at SORIN. My mother went on with my son witle I waited with my daughter and then I had to wait in the fast pass line which was kind of long for my 1 yr old. Is that how it works?

Hey Sarah and thanks for the great question.  Actually you have got it right.  One adult can ride with one child while the other waits with your child who can not ride that particular attraction.  They receive the child swap pass, give it to you and then you and your child re-enter the attraction from the Fast Pass lane.  Sometimes the Fast Pass lane can move slow, too, but it should always be less time than waiting in line for a second time.
It's funny but I too have found Soarin' to be a slower Fast Pass Lane, while others like Splash Mountain and Rock 'n Roller Coaster seem to move very quickly.  The speed of fast past lanes can also be affected by crowds and if the ride had to be closed at any point during the day.
So yes you did it absolutely correct and maybe it will move quicker on your next visit.  Thanks so much for coming to the Mom's Panel.
