    On our last cruise Dec. 2003 our ship was unable to dock at Castaway Cay because of the currents. We want to go again, but really want to see the island. Is there a better time of year to go so we won't run into this problem again?

    Docking at Castaway Cay is very tricky due to the narrow channel that the ship must navigate in and out of this port. The Captain actually uses a computerized joystick to maneuver into port and/or back up the ship. DCL strives to get guests ashore at this beautiful island safely but sometimes weather conditions do not cooperate.

    On my last cruise, I had the opportunity to speak with the Captain aboard the Disney Magic. I learned that the cruises in January and February miss Castaway Cay the most. In fact, it’s about 20 percent of the time during those winter months that the ship is unable to visit Castaway Cay.

    Avoid the winter months for a better chance at seeing Castaway Cay! However, my family has only sailed during the winter, mostly January, and we have never missed this port. Smooth sailing!
