We will be landing around noon for a Disney cruise departing from San Juan in April 2024. We'd like to see the city for a few hours before embarking, but don't want to be lugging around our luggage. Is it possible to check-in then leave the boat?

Hello, Terri, and welcome to planDisney!

"Adventure is out there!” It sounds like you share the same enthusiasm for exploration as the beloved characters from Pixar’s movie “UP.” Although I haven't experienced a cruise from San Juan personally, I did a little bit of research and reached out to Disney Cruise Line to gather the necessary details for you.

There are a few things to keep in mind as you plan your arrival to ensure a smooth start to your magical voyage. There are two piers in San Juan. The Disney Magic leaves from the Pan American dock, which is not by the Old San Juan tourist area. Travel time from the airport to the port is about 20 minutes, depending on traffic. All Guests must be onboard by 5:00 p.m. The boarding process starts at 1:00 p.m.

If this is your first Disney Cruise, you can begin the online check-in process 30 days before sailing and select your Port Arrival Time. This designated time signifies when you should arrive at the terminal, complete luggage drop-off, and prepare for boarding. You can drop off your luggage and take a taxi back into the city. You cannot board the ship and then leave. Just remember to allow enough time to return to the port because once that gangway is up, it's up!

Terri, another option is to enjoy San Juan from the comfort of an air-conditioned motorcoach on your way to the port. Disney Cruise Line can add ground transportation to your reservation from the airport to the port. A Disney Cruise Line representative will be waiting outside the baggage claim area, ready to guide you to your comfortable motorcoach. It's a stress-free and enjoyable way to kick off your vacation with ease!

I hope I’ve been able to help you figure out a plan. Please revisit us if any more questions come up. You are always welcome!
